Laymen's retreat 2009 was a beautiful time with the Lord! It was more than a vacation, it was a time to get away from the regular rhythms of life, and instead, get in harmony with the rhythm of the Spirit. They call close encounters with God, "mountain top experiences," and He really does seem to draw nearer when we take the time, like Christ did, to get away and focus on Him! Being surrounded by like-minded people, who are all anticipating the wonderful presence of Christ, recharges the spiritual batteries! We spend so much of our time at work, at school, and involved in other areas of life that draw our attention away from spiritual things. I found that Laymen's retreat empowered, emboldened, and encouraged me for the work of the Kingdom throughout the remaining year and introduced me to Christian friends that will last a lifetime.

The Retreat was a time of rest, renewal, and refreshing. I was able to retreat from the secular world: from TV, the news, newspapers, radio, books, email, cell phones, along with the daily arguments and strife of the world, for a few short days. It is a time to surround yourself with the WORD, with thoughtful listening, godly people, with songs of joy and praise, in a beautiful place, with good food and close fellowship. It is a time to smile and say hello to everyone you walk by – feeling the brotherhood of being among Christians. It’s a time and a place to shed the outside world. The Sunday school lesson was hard for me to fully grasp and understand. But after studying and talking with the other Nazarenes there, having the time and help I needed, I learned a wonderful new truth about our relationship, Jesus’ and mine. One simple new truth that will help me everyday to become stronger and more mature in my walk. I praise God and am thankful for the retreat board members who work all year long so that we can enjoy together the many blessings offered during this weekend in the mountains.
